Brisbane has risen to the coldest morning this year, with the mercury in the city dipping to just six degrees - about four degrees below average.

Temperatures across South East Queensland dropped to between four and six degrees overnight, thanks to a cold front that moved in yesterday.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Andrea Peace said the city got down to 6.2 degrees, while west Amberley recorded a frosty four degrees.

A wind chill of about two degrees could make this morning's commute feel even chillier, Ms Peace said.

"We have a cool south-westerly wind at the moment that makes it feel colder than it is, with an apparent temperature of just four degrees," Ms Peace said.

The south-east's cold snap is set to continue for the rest of the week and temperatures could drop even lower tomorrow morning.

"We've had a cold front move through yesterday, so that's brought in very dry south-westerly winds... we're looking at similar temperatures tomorrow and it could even be a little cooler.

"When the moisture in the air dries out, that's when we start to see the cool mornings and the cold temperatures."

Warmer mornings should return by Saturday, she said.
