Brett was selected to chop in the Under 21s category of the NSW team as it faced Queensland in a race series ‘best of three’ on June 7 and 8 at Caboolture in Queensland.
Fighting nerves that were only increased when he was the first to start in the teams race, Brett passed a series of heats with flying colours to go on and compete in nine separate events.
On the Saturday he chopped against 40 competitors, and on the Sunday 50, but easily held his own, and was thrilled when his NSW team defeated Queensland, 2 to 0.
As for his personal performance, Brett took second places in the 300mm UH Handicap, 300mm 2nd Division and 300mm SB Handicap, as well as winning first place in the Divisional SB Handicaps within the 3rd Division.
These are big achievements at a very high level, with Brett taking home $400 in prize money and his NSW team jacket following what was a memorable experience in his successful woodchopping career.
