This is truly a rare opportunity for the area to enjoy some powerful live music from a highly professional ensemble, and we have a former local man to thank for the privilege.
Dennis Reid may have left his hometown of Bombala in 1968, but he has constantly stayed in touch with the area, and it is his enthusiasm which is bringing the Military Band to the region.
Dennis, now based in Queanbeyan, is involved in the transport of the band as it travels throughout the country, and is in fact the bus driver for the highly praised group.
It was Dennis that suggested the band come to Bombala, and as he worked with Fay Campbell and Lindsay Paul of the Bombala Rotary Club, the concert soon developed from an idea into a reality.
As was reported in last week’s Bombala Times, the highly anticipated concert will highlight the incredible diversity of the Concert Band instrumentation, also featuring stunning solos and beautiful vocals.
The Bombala Rotary and Community Choir will be performing alongside the band for a number of songs, and the afternoon promises to be a memorable one for all.
As well as bringing musical enjoyment to our communities, the concert is being held to raise money for both local and regional charities, and to increase awareness of Defence capabilities.
The performance will be enjoyed at the Bombala High School Hall on Sunday, May 25 from 2pm, with tickets available at the door or by contacting the High School on 6458 3358.
General admission will be a very reasonable $10, pensioners and children $5, and $20 for a family of four, with a very large audience expected to assemble for the exciting show.
Make sure you grab next week’s copy of the Bombala Times for a detailed background of the Band of the Royal Military College, Duntroon before their enriching local performance.
