Bombala Council’s General Manager, David Rawlings explains that the move to mark out bays in the main street was taken simply to increase the number of parking spaces available during the busier times of the day.
“This is part of an overall plan to free up parking space in our main street by ensuring motorists park closer together,” Mr Rawlings said.
“Council understands that the parking arrangements are different to what locals are used to, but we encourage everyone to work on parking within the marked spaces. It will take time for some to adjust, but the overall benefits to our main street should be clear.”
So far the new parking spaces have met a fairly positive response from the community, with most indicating they had been frustrated in the past with cars being parked too far apart.
